Happy World Cities Day 2026 | October 31
Happy World Cities Day, dear readers!
Today, October 31, 2026 the world celebrates World Cities Day. The United Nations General Assembly created this day in 2013, and it was first celebrated in 2014. This year’s observance takes place in Fuzhou, China, with the main theme brought as “Regenerating the City: Adequate Housing for All.”
According to UN-Habitat, the focus is on renewing neighborhoods so that everyone can have a decent home. UN states that around 55% of the world’s people live in towns and cities, and that share is expected to reach almost 70% by 2050.
A city is more than just buildings and busy roads. It is the coffee shop that opens early in the morning, the bus driver who knows you, and the neighbor who waves from the window. Thank you for being part of the place you call home, whether it is a big city, a small town, or somewhere in between. I hope today reminds you that every place gets better when people care for it.
One simple way to join in today: take a ten-minute walk around your neighborhood and thank one person who helps keep it running. It could be a neighbor, a bus driver, a coffee shopkeeper, or anyone. A small thank you costs you nothing, but it can mean a lot.
